The story is set in the city of Varanasi. Murad Ali (Rishi Kapoor) is a lawyer by profession who lives with his joint family happily. The movie portrays the struggles faced by a Muslim family in a town where they are a minority.
It so happens that Murad Ali’s nephew Shahid joins hands with a terrorist organisation and carries out blasts in Allahabad. A lot of people are killed. Superintendent of Police Danish Javed (Rajat Kapoor ) is given the task to investigate the blasts. He tracks down everyone involved but ends up killing Shahid as he does not surrender.
Police start interrogating the family members of Murad Ali. In short, his entire life turns upside down because of the unfortunate incident. People who were friends start to view them with suspicion.
The rest of the story is how the Ali family try to reclaim their lost honour in a court case. How they prove that terrorism is not religion based. How the society ends up creating a bias against certain communities .
Well the movie is a gripping watch. It is an attempt to highlight the issues of stereotyping, terrorism and the issues revolving around it. Taapsee Pannu shines as the defendant daughter in law lawyer. Rishi Kapoor also does a fine job portraying the character of Murad Ali with great intensity . So if you are a lover of court room dramas just like me give it a watch. The movie will not disappoint you for sure. It is a great lesson for us in humanity as we wander through uncertain times.
