Ubuntu

Starring: Sarang Shetye, Bhagyashree Shankpal ,Atharva Padhyaye

Genre: Drama

The story revolves around a group of students and their teacher who fight to educate more children. The reason for the fight is the only school in the village is going to be shut down by the village authorities. Also the students of the school indulge in mischief which further agitates the villagers.

The twist in the story comes when Abdul, a small and the most intelligent of the lot is forced to drop out. The reason being his uncle wants an additional hand to help. Despite the boy’s protests, his uncle makes him work in his tea stall.

The rest of the story revolves around how the students rescue their friend who works as a child laborer.

The movie is a good watch. It explores the themes of child labour, poverty and Right to education. It is such an irony that education which is supposed to be a gateway to agood life is denied to people who require it the most. Also, the politics revolving around education is a big shame.

“Education is not preparation for life. Education is life itself.”- John Dewey
