” Its your life; live it your way.”

Bob Hoskins

Its been a long time since I got the time to catch a good movie. I know you might think what type of a person does not like watching movies? But considering the busy life, I lead I do take time to watch some. This is because I love to watch and think in a critical manner. This means when I watch a movie, my thoughts go like what emotions are being emoted by the actors, what messages the characters are trying to convey, what should I learn from the movie and so on. I guess even you might be having similar thoughts like this.

So basically this movie was recommended to me by my friend. I had some time off from my busy schedule thus I decided to watch the movie. The movie is set in a highly prestigious academy where in students are taught to adhere to the principles of discipline, honour and tradition. These are supposed to be the pillars to attain success and discipline in life.

Enter John Keating, a teacher who has an unconventional method of teaching . He looks at life from a different perspective . He always asks his students to follow their hearts. He asks his students to make their lives extraordinary. He sums it up by saying “carpe diem” which means seize your day .

This encourages the students to follow their passions as well as restart the Dead Poets Society, a club where they read poetry and verse which includes their own. Everyone tries to be unique in their own manner. Everyone follows their hearts until a tragedy forces them to disband and ultimately Mr. Keating being fired. What is the tragedy that leads to betrayal among the friends who are pretty good friends of one another ?Why is Mr. Keating who asked his students to live an extraordinary life fired? What happens after Mr. Keating gets fired ? Watch the movie and find out.

Now coming to the opinion about the movie . Robin Williams as John Keating steals the show. He pulls off his character with great flair. Also other name worth mentioning is Robert Sean Leonard who portrays the role of Neil. He has played the role with so much intensity that you actually feel for him . This is especially true in parts where his passion for becoming something is shown that you actually end up rooting for him. He with his presence makes you feel the intensity of his passion. However not ends well with him. I wont divulge more as it will act as a spoilsport. I don’t want to ruin the fun.

I learnt a lot from this movie. This movie taught me that one needs to be fearless to live life at his/her own terms . One need not be fearful of any change. Also, one needs to seize the day or to put in the words of John Keating “carpe diem”. So overall its a good watch . I hope you too enjoy it . Do share your experiences .
