” Money is a tool. Used properly it makes something beautiful . Used wrong it makes a mess!”
Bradley Winson
First of all wishing all my readers and subscribers a happy holiday season. Hope you all are safe and are taking the necessary precautions in this ongoing pandemic crisis. Since everyone might be in the mood for a holiday , you all might have implemented your so called holiday plans. Or might be in the mood to do so. Do share your holiday plans if any in the comments section. Those who do not have any should also do fine. This is because this might be a blessing in disguise. The reason why I am calling this a blessing is that you can utilize this time to catch upon your favorite books, music playlist, web series and movies.
If you have not made your choice then maybe my recommendation can come in handy to you . So fasten your seat belts as I present to you my latest offering in the fantastic world of web series- Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story.
Synopsis: Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta story tells us the story of the protagonist, Harshad Mehta. The story is narrated by Sucheta Dalal, a journalist by profession. She chronicles how Harshad Mehta, an ordinary Gujarati man turned into a person who ruled the stock market. But unfortunately his rule was a short lived one. A Pandora box opened which led to his catastrophic downfall. What did the Pandora box contain? Why did he resort to unfair practices? What made him fall down in the eyes of people? Was he apologetic for his actions? Or did his misdeeds continue? The answers to all these questions can be found in the web series.
Assessment: The web series is a take upon how having an overambitious life leads to a person’s downfall. Having an ambition is good but is being overambitious good? This question is explored in the web series. The web series also examines whether money is actually the solution to all questions. Whether it can be used to hide the truth? Can it be used as a medium to deceive people? The web series tries to find the answers to such thought provoking questions as well.
The positives of the show-1. A gripping story line which does not let you have a dull moment anytime.2. Groundbreaking performances by the lead actors. Pratik Gandhi as Harshad Mehta and Shreya Dhanwantary as Sucheta Dalal kill it in their respective roles. Apart from the lead actors there are a few actors’ performances which are worth taking a note. They include Chirag Vohra as Bhushan Bhatt, Hemant Kher as Ashwin Mehta, Nikhil Dwivedi as Tyagi, Rajat Kapoor as K. Madhavan, Anant Mahadevan as S. Venkitaraman and Faisal Rashid as Debashish Basu. 3. The bond shared by the Mehta brothers. Though they had their differences yet they had each others’ back. Such a bond really gives you some serious sibling goals to follow. 4. The detailed research undertaken by the makers of the show. They have tried to maintain the authenticity of the subject matter . No unnecessary spicing up of details, no over the top drama. Its like the perfect biryani according to me. A fantastic concoction of spices and rice cooked at the right temperature. And last but not the least a well known director behind the series in the form of Hansal Mehta.
The negatives of the show-1. The amount of cuss words used. This according to me is a big put off though it is a part of the common man’s parlance.2. The amount of technical jargons used. If you are not from a finance related background, you might have difficulty in understanding the terms used. So, maybe you might have to research the terms upon after watching the series.
The view: This is a show that everyone must have on their watch list. Watch it for the gripping story line and performances. Also it has been directed by one of the finest directors of the Hindi film industry is another reason why you need to include it in your bucket list. So what are you waiting for? Do catch up with the show. Do tell me about your experiences in the comments section.
