“Those who choose to become doctors do it because they have to heal .”

Alexandra Fuller

Corona has taken new forms. What has not been heard of ? Delta, Lambada and right now what is trending is Cuppa. Fungus has also taken new forms like white, black and yellow . The new forms of diseases as well as disorders have increased the importance of doctors and other people related to the medical world. Also, the fact that a few days ago, National Doctors Day was celebrated; that too is the reason why I thought doctors should get their due. After all they are not known as ‘warriors’ just like that. They are despite battling anxiety, deaths and what not are trying their level best to contain the pandemic. Yes, there are some who are not caring about ethics and are indulging in malpractices; but just because one fish turns out to be bad doesn’t mean the entire pond is dirty. Every profession has its fair share of dirty fishes. If the evil is present, then we always need to remember that good also is present in more quantity and quality.

Okay so this blog post is dedicated to all the front line warriors – to all the doctors of our country as well as those around the world. It is because of your consistent and timely efforts that the pandemic has started containing up to an extent . You have faced it all but never ever have you given a thought of giving up against the battle of pandemic. Saluting to that never die spirit , I write this blog post.

Well presenting to you my latest pick in the fantastic world of web series-Operation MBBS . This one has 10 episodes.

Synopsis: This web series revolves around the life of three medical students- Huma, Sakshi and Nishant. They are the students of one of the best medical colleges in the country- Anandibai Joshi Medical College. Sakshi is a girl belonging to a joint family who has fought all odds to join this college. Nishant is a person who has received admission through the management quota. His father is a famous name in the medical field. Huma, just like Sakshi has sacrificed a lot to make the mark. Season 1 explores their journey as first year medical students . They traverse through a roller coaster ride . This includes dealing with nagging seniors, cadavers, exam pressures and what not apart from friendship and rivalry. While on the other hand, the second season deals with the pandemic; the trio having passed their first year exams with flying colours. But sooner, the college becomes a Covid care centre. The college turns into a makeshift hospital as patients with the disease are diagnosed. Added to the woes of the college is the fact that the staff is running short on the equipment required to fight the battle. Does the medical staff overcome the challenge faced by them ? What are the challenges faced by the Dean while handling the situation? Is she able to control the situation properly or does all hell breaks loose ?Watch the web series to find out the answers for the same.

Assessment: This web series is an interesting take upon the journey which medical students undertake to complete their dream of becoming a MBBS doctor. Not only do they have to deal with dead bodies, but also with their seniors, stools, urine and what not. Apart from al this issues such as mental health, peer pressure , fighting for one’s own goals and struggles with insecurities are also highlighted. These insecurities are not only restricted to the medical students but also the staff.

The positives of the show : 1.Realistic portrayal of the struggles faced by medical students during their journey to become a doctor.

2. The friendship between the trio which begins with hate and the bonding they share thereafter on.

3. The comic timing of KC who since the last 4 years has been trying to clear his first year .

4. The joy when KC clears his exam with flying colors with the trio.

5. The struggle which Akash, a highly intelligent boy who is the son of a canteen worker faces and how he emerges victorious even when the odds are against him.

6. The love Nishant showers on his skeleton Venkat.

7. The courage shown by Sakshi to get whatever she wants (This is a true fighter quality which those who have the ability to dream big and fulfill them always have)

The negatives : 1. When your supportive Dean turns against you and abuses her power despite she being at a fault.

2. Despite the disclaimer , when your favorite characters end up smoking or drinking. That fact just irks you like anything .

3. The unnecessary promotions Unacademy has undertaken. But that can be completely understood as a marketing strategy undertaken by the edtech company.

The view: This one is a must watch or should be on your watch list definitely. This one contains all the elements of a teenage drama – love, hate, revenge , struggle, success , peer pressure and what not. Plus you get to know something about the medical field . This is an added advantage for those who do not belong to the field. Believe me I got to know the full form of MBBS from Huma. I seriously did not have any idea about it before .
