There are a few authors whom you get introduced to in your childhood and they become the love of your lives for the entire life. One such author for me is Ruskin Bond sir. I was introduced to him through my mother’s college books, got familiar with him through stories in my school course books and obviously continued my love for his writing even as an adult. The reasons for this everlasting love can be varied; from the variety of stories he gave to his readers to enriching the vocabulary of his readers and most importantly keeping you hooked to his style of writing by adding the necessary elements of drama, comedy and thrill in the correct quantity . This I think are the qualities which a good writer must possess. These qualities actually make someone’s writing more readable and interesting. So, anyone of you who is willing to make writing as their career can consider these as a starting point. Actually, there is no hard and fast rule to writing. The only thing that matters is that whatever you write should be appealing and interesting to read. Whatever style you approach, just make sure that it is appealing and interesting for your readers. Well I am not an expert as such but just stating my observations on what makes a piece of writing readable as well as interesting to read.

Coming to the pick of the week – this time is a dark, intense and a thrilling story of a woman who wants to be loved but is left heart broken every time due to some or the other reason. This one is called “Susanna’s Seven Husbands“.

About the book: Susanna is a woman who has been blessed with good looks as well as lots of wealth, However, there is one thing which is completely missing from her life and that is love. A love which will make her feel complete. In order to complete the missing piece of her life, she decides to settle down. She marries not one but six people of different walks of life. But it seems that a happily married life is not in her fate. This is because none of the six people are able to offer her the happiness and satisfaction which she craves for. Along with that there are rumors in the village that she killed her six husbands as an act of revenge. But none of the charges are able to be proved. Is Susanna able to find the love which she craves for? Or does she give up on finding up love? Read this interesting story full of twists and turns to find out the answer.

Analysis: This book tries to explore a woman’s journey to find love. It is really heart breaking to note that a woman has good looks and is wealthy but is not able to find love in true sense. Each time she tries to find one she just ends up being disappointed as each of them does not offer her what she wants. Mutual respect, trust and love for one another with a bit of adjustment is what keeps a relationship strong and alive. But Susanna finds that only in one person- the one whom she acts as a benefactor and that is Arun. Rest others just either do not live up to her expectations or just end up hurting her emotionally or physically. Sometimes I really appreciate the patience as well as the optimistic nature of Susanna for not giving up despite not finding the right fit for her. Another interesting thing is that she comes up with innovative methods to finish her relation with that person. What are those methods I won’t be revealing them but believe me they are pretty interesting. No one in their wild dreams would have imagined that. Hats off to the imagination of the author for being so creative.

Verdict: This one is a treat for all those who love their stories dramatic with a thriller twist. I personally could not stop reading it once I began reading it. I was so absorbed in reading the tale that I did not even realize when the story finished. Even after the story finished I was like wish the story did not end up so quickly. Ruskin Bond sir never fails to appeal to his readers. This sentiment got even stronger with this one. So, do have this one on your reading list. It will not disappoint you for sure . Also, may be reading will make you a more wiser person and be able to give you a good topic to talk about.

Cite Bite: “And after dusk, an old fashioned horse and carriage can sometimes be seen driving through the Roshanara Gardens. If you chance upon it, ignore it, my friend. Don’t stop to answer any questions from the beautiful fair lady who smiles at you from behind the lace curtains. She’s still looking for an ideal husband.” (Arun’s description about Susanna)
