” By stretching yourself beyond your perceived level of confidence, you accelerate your development of competence.”

Indian culture is filled with a lot of religious texts. Actually, if you are a spiritual person, you will always find the study of religious texts fascinating. And this thing is not restricted to any one religion. Open the religious text of any religion or spiritual sect, you will literally appreciate the genius that has been put into these texts. And even if you are not a spiritual or a religious person or maybe even an atheist but just love studying about different aspects of life to figure out the meaning of our life’s existence I would definitely recommend going for the study of religious texts at least once in your lifetime. Also these texts hold key to some scientific facts. Maybe that is why it is said that ‘science without religion is lame and religion without science is blind.’

The reason why I built this backdrop was because of my latest pick – yet another fantastic book in the awesome world of books; Ek Tari Rucha Angikaravi .

About the book : This book is a self help, motivational or spiritual as you want to call it book. The author is a mechanical engineer by profession who actually is also a a freelancer trainer, facilitator and mentor. Basically he likes to call himself as a ‘catalyst’. He is also a practicing healer and a psychotherapist. In short, he is a person who dons various hats in his life. So, this book is actually his study on one of the shlokas in Hinduism. Hinduism is a religion which boasts of many shlokas. This book is his attempt to understand and explain one of the most famous shlokas-Atharvashirsha. Atharvashirsha for those who are not aware is a very powerful shloka dedicated to the god of wisdom- to lord Ganesha. It is said that the one who recites this shloka with utmost faith and dedication is blessed with the utmost clarity of thoughts in his/ her brain. So this book tries to understand the nuances of the shloka and how one can apply these fine details to one’s own personal as well as professional life. On application of these fine details, one is surely destined to achieve excellence as well as a sense of serenity in one own’s life. And who doesn’t deserve some peace of mind as we traverse our ways through uncertainty?

Analysis: This book is an attempt to understand the meaning of the phrases in the shloka. Each phrase in the shloka holds deep meaning. The book tries to unfold the meaning behind each phrase. Not only it unfolds the meaning behind each phrase, but it also guides us how we can apply those phrases in our personal as well as professional life. The author also assures us of the fact that if applied to our lives, we can achieve excellence in both professional as well as our personal lives. Though the book is written in a vernacular language (my mother tongue Marathi)the author also has this translated into Hindi as well as English. This actually makes it easily accessible to all. Also, the book has a digital version of its which adds icing to the cake.

Another great reason of choosing this book is that the author donates 50% of the book proceeds to those who need it the most- beneficiary students . What can be a better reason if you can contribute your hand to something which really is worth pursuing a cause?

Verdict: This one is definitely worth giving a shot . This book is not only beneficial for those who are into religion or spirituality . This book is also a blessing for atheists or are believers of science and rationality. The reason why I tell this is because it literally holds the key to achieving peace as well as excellence in both aspects of your life- professional as well as personal life. If a book can guide you to become the best version of yourself, then should it be ignored ? That is for you guys to decide. But if you ask me my opinion, I wouldn’t miss any chance to explore the book . This is because just like I enjoyed reading it , so will you.So, what are you guys waiting for? Go and grab a copy of the book in whatever form you can and whatever language you are comfortable with. After all you will be doing a great service not only to yourself but also to humanity.

As part of Women’s Day celebration this is a belated post .But I would love to take this opportunity to celebrate the occasion by doing what I am good at – letting you know my latest pick to celebrate the same.
We do celebrate every working woman ; every woman who is strong or has made a name for themselves. But there is one section of women which always gets neglected while we raise the toast for other women . That section is that of the homemakers/ housewives. How many of us actually do acknowledge or even appreciate the efforts of the women who actually work round the clock to make the lives of those of us who are working comfortable? We feel just because a housewife does not go out to earn a living she does not do anything . But this is where our thought process actually goes wrong or becomes sexist to put it in a very strong language. This is because according to a study , if we actually calculate the economic value of the efforts put in a by a house wife , it amounts to a salary equivalent to around 2.5 lakhs per annum. I suppose for most of us it wouldn’t be a pretty big amount . After all we do earn pretty great salaries by putting in a certain amount of fixed hours for a fixed number of days and enjoy all the perks that come with our job. But what about a housewife or even a stay at home dad? She/ He have to be on their legs for 16-18 hours a day as they have to juggle a multiple responsibilities to make a house a ‘home’ . Yet we so easily disregard the efforts put in by them by saying so easily that they just stay at home and do nothing. It is them who act as a strong pillar to those of us who go outside the house to earn a living . And what salary do they work upon ? Nothing just loads of love and selflessness for their families. So, lets for a change this Women’s month also change our thought process for the better good and acknowledge as well as appreciate the efforts put in by those who actually stay at homes and make our lives better. Do like or share your thoughts on this. I would love to listen from you guys .

So the reason why I created a buildup like this is because my latest pick in the fantastic world of movies tries to explore this territory. Presenting to you ladies and gentlemen, my latest pick – Ki & Ka. For those who are not familiar with the language , let me offer you a little explanation so that you can have a better understanding. The word ‘ki’ is used to describe a female; while on the other hand, the word ‘ka’ is used to describe a male.

Story line: The film revolves around two individuals named Kia and Kabir. Kia is a self driven highly ambitious lady who wants to reach new heights in her career of marketing. While on the other hand, Kabir is the son of a building contractor who is pretty successful . But Kabir does not want to take over his father’s business nor has any interest in inheriting the family inheritance. Both the individuals have a lot of things in common- they share the same birthdays, have the same outlook towards their lives, have single parents and most importantly have the same passion for their respective careers. While Kia aspires to climb the corporate ladder quickly, Kabir despite being the MBA topper of the business school he attended wants to be a person who actually is responsible for running the household. In other words, Kabir wants to be a homemaker by profession . Sounds strange right? But Kabir always felt that being a housewife is actually equivalent to being an artist. So both decide to embrace their respective jobs. Initially everything goes well . But trouble starts brewing when Kia starts getting insecure after her so called house husband starts getting attention. So how do things pan out between the two after insecurities start creeping in their personal lives? Are they able to sort it out or does the distance grows between them? What are the important lessons they learn in the process? What are the lessons they advocate to the world? Are they able to change the so called stereotypical mindset of the society? Or do they face the heat ? The answers to these questions can be found out by watching the movie.

Scrutiny: The movie tries to explore the stereotypes faced by members of both the genders. It tries to address the issue of gender equality in a light hearted manner. Coming to the positives of the movie-

    1. A fantastic story line. The issue of gender equality is addressed in a light hearted manner without sounding too preachy. This actually acts in its favour.
    2. Great dialogues. So hats off to R Balki sir who actually has put in a lot of efforts to write this story.
    3. Fantastic music. After all songs do make up a major part of the movie. So huge shout out to all the music directors involved in the process. Right from the veteran Ilaiyaraja to the recent ones in the form of Meet Bros, Mithoon and Yo Yo Honey Singh.
    4. The beautiful cinematography undertaken by P. C. Sreeram sir. It just makes the viewing of this movie a visual treat to the eyes.
    5. The artistic brain of Kabir who designs the house revolving around the theme of trains. I was like he did deserve his share of credit of being a business school topper. That is actually pretty good utilization of the space which a house can offer . It actually gave me some pretty good ideas to work upon(HAHA)
    6. The emotions involved in the movie. They actually feel genuine. That is also one of the parameters that should not be neglected in the making of a movie.
    7. Wonderful histrionics by both the lead actors. After this actually I really felt that maybe Arjun Kapoor is not a bad actor as he is supposedly made out to be . He can actually put in efforts if his acting skills are put to a good use.

Coming to the negatives of the movie-

    1. Could the number of intimate scenes be reduced? Its not that I don’t enjoy being a romantic at heart. I am actually one at heart. But you need not fill your entire movie with it. The scenes just feel over the top. And anything done in excess just spoils the beauty .
    2. At some places the sense of humor is just cringy in nature. Maybe we could have addressed it in a much better manner. You will get to know what I am referring to after you watch the movie. I feel even you would feel the same.

Sentiment: I have a philosophy which I like to apply while making a decision in every aspect of life. I do hope that it helps you as well to make great choices in every aspect. That philosophy is pretty simple – if the pros(positives)outweigh the cons(negatives) then you shouldn’t give it a lot of thought . Just go for it without giving it a second thought. There’s a reason behind this- the more we think about a thing , we tend to get confused a lot. And who needs confusion when you can achieve clarity in your thoughts? So, maybe by now you would have figured it out what my sentiment might be. Go for it at least once in your life. Maybe you would open up new windows of your thought process. Maybe it will help you become less sexist in your thought process. Maybe it will make you look women who you never appreciate or acknowledge at all in a new light. So, its a resounding yes from me. Do share your experiences about the same . Would love to hear from you as well. Meet you next week with a new pick. Till then lots of love and take care and be safe.

  • “Na streeratnasam ratnam (There is no jewel like a woman)

First of all wishing all my women readers and subscribers a very happy Women’s day. May we all be strong in all senses whether it be physically, mentally or a combination of both. May we raise our daughters to be strong as well. May they have the strength to fight against all the evils prevailing in the society whether it be in the form of eve teasing, sexual harassment, rape, murders, acid attacks, body shaming, child marriages, dowry deaths, genital mutilations, abductions, forced conversions, domestic violence and infibulations. Though times have changed but such practices still exist. This is actually very shameful in fact. And the worse is such matters are not brought to justice but are sensationalized by all the media powerhouses in an attempt to raise their ratings .

Women on one hand, are trying to make their mark in their respective fields and trying to break the glass ceiling by creating new highs. Yet on the other hand, we do notice instances where a woman if she tries to raise her voice against something inhumane or an injustice against her, she is asked to be silent ( gag herself to put it in a very strong language)or asked to mend her ways. But I as a woman would like to ask a question: who is at fault here? Is it the society who tries to put a gag on the woman who tries to raise her voice against the atrocities committed on her ? Or is it the woman herself who raises her voice? That is for you guys to decide . All I am trying to say is that if a woman decides to be strong then no power in this whole world can stop her. And even if she has to fight the entire world, she will fight it and utilize her last bit of energy to do so. So maybe it is high time that women also get their long due.

But on the other hand, it is also heartening to know that there are people who are raising up the ladies in their house to be a strong independent lady, So, really hats off to their efforts and may they continue doing the good work. And believe me these people do deserve a huge shout out as well. If not from others , they will surely get a rounding applause from me. This is because they are really doing a great job. May they continue doing the good work .The reason is we do need a lot of such people to raise super strong and independent women. Also we should not have a single specific day to celebrate the women in our lives. Every day should be an occasion to celebrate it . And it shouldn’t be the women only that needs to be celebrated ; but also the men in our lives. After all they too play an equally important role in upbringing as well as lending their support to all the strong women out there. After all it wouldn’t be wrong to say that after every strong and a successful woman is a man out there. A man who believed in the ladies of their house . So they need to be celebrated with the same zeal and enthusiasm as we celebrate ourselves .

Thus, on this special occasion let us all take a vow. We will not only raise strong women but also raise our voices against any injustice meted on women and make the world a much gender friendly place to live in . Do give a like or share your thoughts on what significance Women’s Day holds to you. Or what feminism truly means to you. Would love to hear from you as always. Till then lots of love and care from a strong woman to everyone out there. I would like to conclude with a powerful quote

” Dashputrasama kanya dashputraanpravardhyan yatphalam labhte martyastalabhya kanyayekya

(One daughter is equal to 10 sons. Whatever phala [merits, good results] a person attains by upbringing ten sons , the same phala is attained by begetting a single daughter alone.)

    Yours truly,

    Roshani Patil

To all the strong women of the world you are loved and respected .
