” Ye dosti hum nahi todenge, todenge dum magar tera saath na chodenge. ” goes the song from the iconic movie Sholay. The movie celebrates the iconic bromance between Jai and Veeru.

It is not the only movie to celebrate bromance. Bollywood has always loved its movies which have portrayed the emotion. But if you think that the feeling of bromance is restricted to movies only then you have got it completely wrong.

Even web series have embraced the theme of bromance. The series I am going to talk about is Nalayaks. It marks the debut of Pawan Yadav and Rajat Verma. It is the story of two friends who study in class 11 of a government school, Sandy and Ladoo. Sandy is shown to be a street smart fellow while Ladoo is a guy who tags along. Remember Circuit from the Munnabhai series?

The show revolves around the misadventures of these two. They try to enjoy the pleasures of the world without working hard for it. They try to woo girls, fool around and even land in jail together. However their bromance goes for a toss when Sandy gets his moment of fame as the state topper. With his fame he gets the girl of his dreams Rinki as well.

So does the bromance continue or is it a new beginning for the two friends who call each other brothers?Do watch the show to find out. The show has several USPs to it- First it has that Delhi vibe to it. The show has been set in Delhi- Gurgaon area. Plus the authentic portrayal by the lead actors make it an interesting watch. Secondly there is never a dull moment in the show. The characters of the show crack you up that you go ROFL. Thirdly the bromance by the lead actors is pretty interesting. You do feel for each of their moments. And last but not the least the web series has an unexpected happy twist to it.

Do watch the show and tell me about your experiences in the comments section. Happy watching till then.

  • 1984

    Genre: Political fiction

    Author: George Orwell

” The great strength of the totalitarian state is that it forces those who fear it to imitate it.”

    Adolf Hitler

I am a big fan of international relations and political science as a subject. The concepts of the subject has always blown my mind away. That is because the entire subject revolves around people rising up and falling down. In short it revolves around the very concept of power.

Aristotle has rightly said, “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” The book in focus this week revolves around the concepts of power and totalitarianism. To explain totalitarianism I would like to give you a few examples. Consider the case of Germany under Adolf Hitler or Italy under Benito Mussolini or Russia under Vladamir Lenin and even Iraq under Saddam Hussain. That should give you the idea of what totalitarianism means. To put it in simpler words it means dictatorship.

So 1984 the novel by George Orwell( who is also the author of the famous Animal Farm) is set in Oceania . It revolves around the characters of Big Brother who is supposed to be a cult personality, Winston, Julia and O’ Brien.

Winston is a person who works in the Ministry of Love( not at all literally). He despises the party ideology he is made to practice . He somehow wishes to overthrow the party and relive the good old times. He wishes to be part of The Brotherhood headed by Emmanuel Goldstein. He is joined by Julia as his partner. However his actions are caught by the Thought police and he is sentenced to prison. O’ Brien whom he believed to be his comrade in support actually turns out to be the betrayer.

Winston is made to face a lot of physical abuse so that he can align his thought to the party ideology. So what happens to Winston? Does he fall in line or is he subject to death like other thought criminals , that is for you guys to find out.

The novel was an interesting read. But the ending was abrupt. I won’t give away any spoilers as it would just ruin the mood. Just wished the ending was not abrupt. However overall it is a good read. You do feel for the character of Winston. So do read it and tell me about your experiences in the comments section.

“I believe the root of all evil is abuse of power.”

  • Raajneeti

Starring: Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Nana Patekar, Manoj Bajpayee

    Genre: Political thriller

“There are no morals in politics; there is only expedience. A scoundrel may be of use to us just because he is a scoundrel. “

    Vladimir Lenin

Well the election season is around, so what was the best way to celebrate it? Obviously either to read a book celebrating the exercise in the biggest democracy of the world. Or watching a movie which celebrates the process. I chose the latter. So that is how I ended up watching Raajneeti.

The story is supposed to be the modern retelling of the epic Mahabharata. The epic is the story between the Pandavas and Kauravas. The situation is the same only that this revolves around 4 brothers. Two of them are deep into politics as they are carrying forward their family legacy. However two brothers are forced into the field of circumstances. Guiding them is their uncle who is supposedly portrayed on the character of Lord Krishna.

The movie has all the elements of a thriller and drama. It has deceit, killings , controversies and scandals . All the actors shine in this movie, especially Manoj Bajpayee who plays the antagonist. Watch out for his “karara jawaab” scene. Its worth imitating. Katrina Kaif also shines as Indu.

So overall the movie is an interesting watch. The twists and turns will keep you fixed in the seat. Celebrate the biggest festival called the elections by giving it a watch. Do share your favorite moments in the movie in the comments section.

    Katrina Kaif as Indu

” Politics is war without bloodshed while war is politics with bloodshed.”
