” You have to believe in yourself when no one else does.”

    Serena Williams

Hello everyone !New week, new beginnings and yes a new pick. Believe me I am always super excited to present you with my latest pick. Be it in the world of books, movies or web series, I am trying to present my audience as well as my potential readers a fresh perspective about the things which have been either watched by me or read by me. Though I am a bit irregular with respect to this, I am trying my level best to be more and more regular with this. This is because I want to build a quality library of articles which can serve as a guiding light for people in terms of what they can watch or read . So,presenting to you this week’s pick in the fantastic world of web series- a story of three friends who are studying for the most prestigious exam of India- the civil service examination. The civil service examination is one of the prestigious as well as the toughest exam in the country. But the one who clears it has a huge window of opportunity open for him or her . This is because it provides a direct entry to the most elite services of the country- the administrative services. Lakhs of students prepare for this exam but only a small percentage manage to shine and make way to the administrative services.

Synopsis: Aspirants tells us the story of three friends Abhilash, Guri and SK in the past as well as present. Abhilash is a guy who just views every situation in a negative perspective until he meets Dhairya, a girl who teaches him to have a balanced outlook in life. Guri is a happy go lucky guy who instead of studying for the exams romances every girl he can find. This habit of Guri annoys Abhilash as he does not take things seriously. This creates tension between the two. And SK plays the role of the mediator between the two. Cut to present, Abhilash has become an IAS officer while his two friends have taken up jobs to earn a living- SK as a civil service exam instructor and Guri as a NGO founder. Abhilash after becoming an IAS officer has not spoken to his so called two best friends. This upsets Guri a lot who thinks that Abhilash has become arrogant after clearing his exam. While on the other hand, SK thinks that Abhilash might be busy with his job and tries to reconcile. Do they reconcile? Do they keep their egos aside and brush all the differences? Watch the series to find out the answers.

Assessment: This series tries us to show the struggles, the hopes and the emotions that a UPSC aspirant goes through his or her life. The person who has the right amount of patience, determination, optimism and hard work is the only one who will make it to the finish line. There are many people who toil day in and day out. But unfortunately, destiny doesn’t favor them quickly. This is beautifully illustrated through the example of Sandeep Bhaiya, who is a senior to Abhilash. But as aptly said , “destiny favors the hardworking.” Sandeep bhaiya too fulfils his desire of getting a government job by passing the state commision exam. This series has everything from comical moments to moments filled with tension . This one makes you cry as well as smile and most importantly it presents you with lessons for life. Lessons which will motivate you and try to make a better version of you. Everything is awesome in this series right from the story to the acting by the lead actors. I especially enjoyed the character of SK more than that of Abhilash and Guri. Another personal favorite was the character of Sunny Bhaiya . Why I wouldn’t reveal the reason but would like you to find it out by yourself out.

The view: This one has to be included in your watch list. This one is a complete roller coaster as well as a show which teaches you a lot of life lessons. The superb acting , story line and the inspiring dialogues just makes you fall in love with it. So, if you are an UPSC aspirant or need a dose of motivation this one is going to fill that quota for sure. I am sure that you too will enjoy this one just the way I did.

Hope you all are back in the grinding mode. These 2.5 years of pandemic made us way too comfortable in our daily lives; though for most of them it was a horrible nightmare as well. But now it seems that things are beginning to return to normal. This is surely a great piece of news for all of us. What all crises we humans have had to endure. Yet, each and every time we have always emerged victorious and become more stronger.

Well, lets cut the musings of the achievements of mankind short and get straight to our latest pick of the week- a book. This week’s pick is called “The Mafia Queens of Mumbai“. Written by a former investigative journalist turned author, this book narrates the chronicles of 13 such women who were involved in the criminal activities in the city and gave a wild goose chase to the police. Who said that only men were capable of performing crimes? After reading this book your perception towards women will change completely. This is because women too proved their mettle in this field by carrying out the most heinous crimes either by themselves or with the help of fellow gangsters counterparts. Be it the famous Jenabai from whom gangsters sought advice or the vengeful Ashraf Khan who wanted to avenge her husband’s death. Each story is unique and how they entered the world of crime is also an interesting tale. Did these women continue to break the law or did they give up on their bad habits to reform themselves ? Do read the book to know the answers.

Analysis: This book chronicles the life of 13 such women who made their way to the top in the world of underworld. Each lady had a different objective to achieve and they used crime as their way to reach the ends. This book also makes us travel to the different time periods in the city thus making us witness the different facets of the city that never sleeps and its underbelly.

Verdict: This one is a blockbuster read, Fast paced, with not a moment of dullness, this one needs to be on your bookshelf for sure. The detailed research and investigation undertaken by the author is worth praising. This is a book that will inspire as well as fill you with awe. It will make you wonder about the guts these ladies showed. This one is a big thumbs up from me. See you soon with another classic pick soon. Till then take care and do give it a like, share and a subscribe.

” Chase the vision, not the money, the money will end up following you.”

    Tony Hsieh

First of all sincerest apologies for not writing a blog post after so many days. Its just that sometimes your consistency just goes for a toss due to some thoughts in your mind. Though the thoughts are still going on, but have started making peace with it somewhat. After all there are certain situations in life which you cannot control . So its always better to have control on things which can be controlled. Also, you need to be content with whatever you have instead of running behind the things which might not matter also much. So, these are certain conclusions which I have started reaching. I do not know whether my thought process is right or not . But one thing I know that when life has to reward it will reward you . Maybe till then, I will have to harbor a lot of patience and undertake hard work for it even though I might not like it .

Okay, so enough discourse on life and lets focus on getting the work done- that is writing about the latest pick of the week. Each one of us has that one dream for which we can go to any extent. Either that dream can be chasing your dream job or maybe a passion or an hobby you want to pursue. Sometimes, it can also be the idea you have which you want to transform into something big. What happens when a group of 4 people who are supposed to be best friends since college decide to dream big?

This week’s pick revolves around those 4 people who decide to go what is supposed to be a lifelong dream. So, ladies and gentlemen, presenting to you the latest pick in the awesome world of web series- Pitchers.

Synopsis : Four people who are best friends since college want to have their own startup. Naveen, who is the brain behind the startup faces a dilemma as to whether continue to continue with his job or take the leap of faith. But then, he decides to undertake a risk. What follows is a story of how they struggle to follow the dream which was seen a long time back. A dream if successful, will open new doors for them or which can lead them to downfall. What are the challenges they face while chasing their dreams ? What are the realizations they have while undergoing the struggle ? Do the 4 friends stick together and make it to the end ? Or do they fall apart? Do they have any twists and turns in their journey? After all, what is life it doesn’t have any twists and turns right?

Assessment: The web series tries to underline the struggles one faces while chasing a dream. Here the dream is to have a startup of their own. Everyone undertakes some or the other kind of risk in order to have this dream fulfilled. Majority of them resign from their jobs while the one who still retains it starts working in double shift. Everyone undertakes something or the other. But despite the obstacles they face, there is only one thing which keeps them going – why they started the journey.

There’s a lot to learn from this one. The very first thing I learned from this- if you are really passionate about what you want to do, you will find ways to overcome all the obstacles. The second lesson I learnt was no matter how hard the journey is, if you are willing to traverse through the tough roads, you will eventually find a light at the end of the tunnel. The third lesson I learnt is sometimes in order to achieve something big in your life, you need to step out of your comfort zone. You need to keep grinding till you are not valued. These are the life lessons imparted by the show. Other positive highlights include-

    1. A wonderful story line
    2. Superb acting by the leads. My personal favourite was the character of Saurabh Mondal. He is the one who is not given much importance. Yet, he does not let that affect him and goes the extra mile to keep others happy. You guys might be surprised by my choice but more than Naveen, I could relate to his character.
    3. The tenacity by which the four pursue their dream despite life throwing challenges.
    4. The speech which Naveen gives (Sorry for playing a little spoilsport here). That is one of the fantastic highlights of the show.
    5. The life lessons each character receives as they encounter different problems and challenges in their lives.

    The negatives:

    1. Lot of swear words used in the show by the leads.

    2. The story line in between gets a bit confusing. I mean I tried to figure out certain things but they just went over the head. What are those the details of those I won’t reveal as it may act as a spoilsport to my lovely audience and readers.

The view: This one can be termed as a great teacher. This one imparts a lot of life lessons and asks you to delve inside. This one actually provokes you to think what struggles people go through to have their dreams fulfilled. If you are a dreamer, a believer and a doer, then this one has to be on your watch list for sure. If you have viewed it, then I am sure you might have enjoyed it the way I did. Do share your experiences about the same. Also, if you do love the articles I write, do make an effort to share it among your friends and family. Will be more delighted, grateful and motivated to produce such articles.

    The leads in a discussion

Que: What does Bhati compare Naveen with?

    a. A juice can

    b. A milk bottle

    c. A beer bottle

    d. Cooking oil

Baap dialogue: ” I am a zero in the team but inke peeche lag jaata hoon toh net value 10 times ho jaati hai.”-Saurabh Mondal
