” Strength lies in differences not in similarities.”

    Stephen Covey

The study of electric forces in Physics states that like forces repel while opposite forces attract. This is true in the study of science. But does it hold true in the study of life? Can two people who are poles apart behaviour wise fall in love and live happily ever after ?

The answer to this question lies in my latest pick- 1% of something. Actually to be honest I am a bit wary of romcoms. But due to some reason I always end up watching them (HA-HA). Maybe one of the reasons might be that we as human beings just love the feeling of falling in love and cannot resist it. Then that feeling might exist anywhere in novels, movies or web series.

Synopsis : The series is based on a novel of the same name by Hyun Go- woon. It revolves around a ruthless heir of a wealthy family named Lee Jae in and an elementary school teacher Kim Dae hyun. Lee Jae in has to get married so that he can inherit his grandfather’s fortune. In order to get what he desires, he agrees to enter into a 6 month dating contract with the teacher. The teacher is supposed to be belonging to an ordinary family. She is chosen for the legion by his grandfather. Why is she chosen for him? This is for you guys to find out. Both start on a rough note. This is because the heir is adamant on dating her ; while she thinks of him as a scammer. So how does their 6 month journey unravel? Do they fall in love ? What all trials do they have to face? Are they able to face it all and live happily ever after? Watch the series to find out.

The analysis : The hits of the web series-

Firstly it is the character of Kim Dae Hyun. Though at times she is shown to be a temperamental lady with her dating partner. But the best things about her is that she is really sensitive and kind to everyone. Her personality has that charm which instantly draws her to others. Also, she is a pretty independent woman . She insists on doing things on her own. Her only put off is that her naive nature lands her in trouble. And boy you do hate it when the lead heroine falls in trouble.

Secondly the characters of team leader Kang and attorney Kim Hyeong Joon have also been portrayed by the respective actors nicely. They are the only ones who can withstand the so called famous wrath of the grandfather as well as the legion. Also the two always take important advice from these two characters.

And last but not the least , the speech which is given by the legion’s grandfather. That is the best part and pretty well sums up the series. (Sorry for that little spoiler).

The misses of the web series:

Firstly, the rivalry between the brothers, the cat fights between the ex- lover and the current date and the family politics. It just feels dramatic and waste of time. But I guess these things are added to spice up the series. After all life is supposed to be one big drama isn’t it?

Secondly that can be a put off is the time duration . Each episode is supposed to be of 40-42 minutes. If you want, you can skip the initial few minutes as basically it is a recap of what happened last. You can thank me for the tip later:p.

Verdict: Its an interesting take about two people who are completely opposites. It makes you laugh, cry, pine for love. So, it manages to hit the right chords with the viewers. Also the performances of the actors and actresses involved make it worthy to watch. Those who love drama and are fans of romcoms will surely enjoy it. Do tell me about your experiences. Always waiting to hear it from you.

  • The Richest Man In Babylon

    Author: George Samuel Clason

    Genre: Self help/ Finance

” Money isn’t everything but everything needs money.”

    Anonymous

Every human being aspires to live a good life. The definition of a good life varies from one person to another. For some , it might be to live a life full of meaningful experiences . For some it might be searching for new adventures. For some it might be earning a lot of money and living a luxurious life. Those who aspire to earn a lot of money and live a luxurious life always find ways to maximize their incomes. After all money is supposed to be an indicator of a successful life. A life which allows us to enjoy the so called comforts of life. But the question arises in mind- how to keep the stream of money flowing ? This is because it is required to fulfill the basic needs along with pleasures of life.

The answer to the question is supposed to lie in my latest pick in books- The Richest Man in Babylon. This book is written by George Samuel Clason. He was an American author who was known for writing a series of informational pamphlets about being thrifty and achieving financial independence.

The book dispenses financial advice through a collection of parables set 4000 years ago in ancient Babylon. The parables are told by a character named Arkad. He gives us the seven cures and 5 laws of gold. The 7 cures are the seven pieces of advice to generate money and wealth. While the 5 laws of gold is advice about how to protect and invest your wealth. He has also given other important financial advice like living within your means; investing in known sources of wealth; importance of long term saving and home ownership. The book is supposed to be a guide to personal finance; the principles of which are still relevant till date.

The book is a good read. One can appreciate the wisdom which Arkad advocates as to how to become rich . He shares his own experience along with experiences of other people who either became rich or poor due to their mistakes. The book is written in a parable style which makes it an interesting read. The only drawback I can see is that the book is written in old English so that can make it a bit difficult to read. This is especially the case if you are not familiar with it. The book might appear to be boring by its cover. But believe me it is not. What are you waiting for ? Go grab a copy and get some wisdom about how to grow your money.

  • The Emoji Movie

    Directed by: Tony Leondis

    Genre: Animated/ Comedy

” Emotions make us human . Denying them makes us beasts.”

    Victoria Klein

Emotions are a medium by which we humans express ourselves. When we feel happy, we smile, we laugh , we giggle. When we feel sad we cry . When we feel angry we shout, we scream etc. It is our way of communicating how we feel. The medium of expression has found a place in the technology which we use too. Just like emotions, technology has become an integral part . When we fused the two, we initially came up with emoticons which were followed by emojis.

Thus presenting you my latest movie pick- The Emoji movie. The movie revolves around Gene, a multi expression emoji who gets sentenced to be deleted after he makes a mistake in a message his user Alex sends to his crush. He has to escape the bots who are sent to destroy him . Joining him in his escapade initially is Hi5, an emoji who is rarely used. He tells him that his ticket to freedom is a hacker known as Jailbreak. They somehow reach her. Though initially reluctant she agrees to help Gene. Is Gene able to escape from the bots or does he get destroyed? Does he reach his destination and get transformed? Or does he accept his so called malfunction as a unique quality of his? Watch the movie to find out.

The analysis: Talking about the hits and the misses of the movie-

The Hits- top class animation(that’s an obvious if you are backed by one of the topmost companies- Sony Pictures.). The characters of Hi 5 who adds a comic element to the movie and is a great buddy to the main character. The character of Gene who is shown to be timid first ; but displays his courageous and loyal side as well. Another character which was also fantastic in nature was that of Jailbreak. Her knowledge about computers is admirable which helps them navigate through the difficulties they face.Even the character of Smyler made for a very good villain according to me.

The misses– Actually, I felt only one thing amiss. That was the other emojis did not get much of their screen time. It would have been interesting to know about them as well. Maybe if sequels are planned for the movie they can try capturing the stories individually. Or maybe the stories can be made into a book.

The verdict: The movie is fun to watch . Though it can be difficult to understand the jargons for those who are not into computers or big fans of technology. But no worries you can still enjoy the movie even though you are not well versed with the terms. So do give it a watch and tell me about your experiences in the comments section.
