“When two people really care about each other, they will always look for a way to make it work, no matter how hard it is.”

As I was surfing the Internet, I kept coming across advertisement of this series. Intrigued, I decided to watch it. It did not turn out to be a bad decision at all. So, presenting you the latest pick- My Girlfriend is an Alien. Believe me I am not a fan of science fiction and romance .But I kept an open mind and watched the series.

The story revolves around a president of a large corporation in China and a female alien from the planet of Cape town. The alien saves the president from a car accident. But by saving him, her annuciator which is supposed to be her gateway to home goes in his heart. The alien tries to retrieve it by by using various means. The President who is tagged as a womanizer is initially annoyed by her constant presence but later falls for it. However as the rain comes, it washes out his entire memories of her and the women he had previously dated. Can the alien help him retrieve his memories? What all difficulties does the alien has to endure? How does it end for them? Do watch the series and find it out yourselves.

The series has an interesting story line. However, some parts of the series especially the ones which are loaded with a lot of drama seem unnecessary. Maybe the creators of the series must have added it to grab eyeballs. But it could be completely ignored. Acting by the lead actors especially those who have played the characters of Fang Leng and assistant Han deserve a special mention. I just had one issue- the episodes seem too long . So , those who are not used to watching such long episodes may find themselves getting a little bored. But the good thing is that the series has a lot of comic moments also which will make you laugh out loud. So, do watch the series and tell me about your experiences as well. Waiting for your lovely comments.

” A perfect marriage is just two imperfect people who refuse to give up on each other.”

Hope you all are keeping yourself busy with something or the other during this period of crisis. Well, a huge thumbs up and a salute for that. Even I am trying to keep myself busy so that no negative thoughts enter the mind. After all hasn’t Winston Churchill aptly said, ” When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.” So keeping myself occupied with doing some or the other activity. This one was supposed to be written a long time back but thanks to my awesome time management skills ( pun intended) I got the time to write this now. Well, never mind because it is better late than never.

So, presenting you my pick in the category of books: Two States: The Story of my marriage written by Chetan Bhagat. Chetan Bhagat is an author of Indian origin who has studied in the so called elite institutes of our country namely Indian Institute of Technology and Indian Institute of Management. He has written a few books apart from this one which had topped the best sellers when they were released. This book is also not a new one just a old one. But I recently read it as I had watched the movie. So thought which might be better: the book or the movie? Thus ended up reading it.

The book is a story about two people belonging to two different states of India: Krish who is a north Indian, a Punjabi to be specific ( believe me I hate tagging people so apologies for the same) and Ananya who is a Tamilian Brahmin . Two different people with two different family backgrounds and culture. One has a pretty orthodox family and the other one has less restrictions compared to the earlier. These two meet at the Indian Institute of Management who become friends first , then fall for each other eventually. However they have an uphill task in hand- to convince their parents for letting them get married. So they plan a series of meetings for their parents hoping that they will agree. Do they succeed in convincing their parents? Or do they have to make up other plans to convince them? After all it takes a lot of efforts to convince someone when asking for permission for important life decisions like marriage right?

The book was an interesting take on the topic of inter state marriage, a topic which is still considered to be a taboo in a country like ours. This is because one has to adapt to different culture, different rituals . So people end up preferring marrying people within their communities(casteism an age old practice which still hasn’t lost relevance). But I do feel that such practices do make us appear a bit narrow minded . We call ourselves modern and civilized yet practice such practices. But are we really ? Maybe a thought needs to be given on the topic . So yes the book does try to address the issue in a light- hearted manner. So maybe if you are bored , have nothing to do or just want to convince your parents to marry a friend of yours if he/ she belongs to some other state, community or culture maybe you can read and convince them.

  • Aisha

Starring: Sonam Kapoor, Abhay Deol, Cyrus Sahukar, Arunoday Singh, Ira Dubey , Amrita Puri

    Genre: Romance/Comedy

” Sometimes a Cupid plays hard to catch; As he always got new couples to match. ”

    Ana Claudia Antunes

Okay thanks to the outbreak of Covid -19 pandemic which has spread like wildfire and our Government’s decision of a 21 day lock down I have got time to finish my pending blog posts. I have just a few of them remaining and had nothing to do . So thought must use the time I have to complete the pending work. I am a person who generally doesn’t procrastinate and likes to keep everything up to date . But sometimes laziness creeps in and the work remains pending which I seriously hate to finish afterwards. So I am trying to take measures to kick out my laziness and be at the top of my game . Oh yes, do take care and stay indoors and build your immunity. We shall overcome this so called crisis as well.

Enough of my life story, coming straight to the point . The point where I present you my pick in the form of a web series or a book or a novel. So, presenting to you the Sonam Kapoor starrer Aisha. This movie is inspired by the novel written by Jane Austen Emma. Aisha is a young, free spirited , upper class woman who has a hobby of matchmaking. This literally annoys her childhood friend and neighbour Arjun( Abhay Deol) who feels she is wasting her potential in doing such stupid things. This leads to constant arguments between the two. Things take an interesting twist when she tries her hand in fixing her friend Shefali with her known acquaintance Randhir, who is a famous sweetmeat owner . But Randhir ends up confessing his feelings for her, This leaves her confused. So she tries fixing her friend with her aunt’s step son Dhruv( Arunoday Singh). But Shefali ends up confessing her feelings for Arjun which ends up hurting her a lot. So, the question is does Aisha learn from her mistakes ? Or does she continue committing them ? Watch the movie to find out.

Now coming to the analysis part : Well I was drawn to watching this movie by the fact that it was inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma. I found the movie okay. I mean I tried to keep my mind open but believe me it is just a one time watch. Sonam Kapoor portrays her character well . But if things were to happen like this in real life it would seem next to impossible. After all you cannot expect such a comfortable life in real life . But aren’t movies supposed to entertain us you would ask . They are but with a little bit of reality always helps. So Aisha fails to deliver on that front. Thus it is not worth more than watching once . Yeah those who love to be transported to the land of fairies the might enjoy this one.

    Rating: **

“You don’t find love, it finds you . It’s got a little bit to do with destiny, fate and what’s written with the stars.

    Anais Nin

Meet Aisha, the girl who loves matchmaking .
