After a long time I really got to lay hands on a book . Though I love reading but thanks to the busy schedule I had, did not get time to read one. So I decided to use my free time and make the most of it. I do so by either catching up with some web series or a movie or a book . After all I do need to recharge myself so that I can pursue everything in my mind with great vigour and enthusiasm.

There are times when you just feel patriotic about your country, when you feel you should do something for the country. This feeling is generally dominant in me when I read something very motivational in nature. This is exactly what happened to me while reading Anandmath.

I am a lover of historical stories as well. There’s something in it which intrigues me and makes me feel as if I am the character. I literally start imagining I am the hero of the novel and I am fighting the battles. This is a quality of a good book I feel – the reader should be so engrossed that he/ she should feel as if he/ she is the character.

Now coming to the book , Anandmath is a fictionalised account of an important event which took place in the history of India- the Santhal rebellion. The national song of India Vande Mataram was taken from this song. The song was an anthem to fight against the imperial forces and a war cry to inspire the nationalist forces.

The book revolves around the lives of two main characters Mahendra and Kalyani. It is the time of famine in Bengal. So they are forced to relocate themselves. But a course of events lead to their separation. Kalyani is taken care by a Hindu monk named Satyananda who is the leader of the Santhals fighting against the imperial forces .

The reunion of the husband and wife leads to Mahendra invoking patriotic feelings in him and he deciding to join the rebellion. Do the Santhals achieve their objective which they have in their mind? What are the trials faced by the main characters ? Do the imperial forces suffer a setback or do they emerge victorious ? Read the book to find out.

The book is fast paced. There is not a single dull moment in the book . It is an interesting read especially because it covers an important event in the history of Indian freedom struggle which set the pace for future events in the course of history of India. This is an absolute treasure for those who love reading historical stuff. While for those who are not , you may give the book a skip or read it with an open mind which might help you to enjoy the book. Do tell me about your experiences in the comments section. Waiting for your lovely feedback.

  • Break ke Baad

Starring: Deepika Padukone, Lillete Dubey , Imran Khan, Sharmila Tagore, Shahana Goswami

    Genre: Romance/ Comedy

” Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.”

    Lao Tzu

I have always tried to understand why does the genre of romcoms ( romantic comedy) click with people ? What are the elements which people relate to in the genre? Is it the chemistry between the leads or is it the comedy present in the story? Maybe it might be both. After all people need an experience which leaves them filled with emotions.

So presenting to you my take on the romcom movie Break ke Baad. The movie directed by Danish Aslam has the gorgeous Deepika Padukone and the handsome Imran Khan in the lead. The movie explores the love story between the two. One is a pure romantic and is ready to settle with his friend and love of life. While on the other hand, the other is an ambitious and a commitment phobic. The boy tries to woo the girl . But the girl has plans to make it big in the field of acting . So she lands up in Australia. Our lover boy follows her to Australia and discovers himself after getting chastised by the girl. Does the boy pass the trials which his girl has to offer ? Or does he face dejection in the process? Do watch the movie to find out.

Deepika’s portrayal of the fiercely independent yet commitment phobe Aaliya is spot on. Her depiction of wanting to fly high without any constraints resonates a chord with the audience . Also Imran Khan as the chocolate boy lover Abhay steals your hearts with his performance. The movie showcases the different sides of what love is for people. Shahana Goswami too steals the show with her performance. So does Lillete Dubey who portrays the role of Pammi Bua . Her belief in love despite not having it worked out with previous relationships is worth watching. So yes the movie does make you laugh, cry and smile . Do watch it . You won’t regret it. It gets a thumbs up from me. Also do tell me about your experiences in the comments section.

” You know you are an adult when you are excited to go home .”

Welcome to another blog post from me. This time we explore a web series which I caught up recently. Believe me the best way to unwind is either to catch up with a book , watch a movie or a web series. And if you don’t like any of the above, you can go shopping or for a hike or just catch some sleep.

The web series which we are going to dissect today explores Adulting. Adulting is basically when we are supposed to act responsible in this big, bad world. We have to do a job which pays us. Then that payment goes to handling finances which may include expenses for rent, food , entertainment etc. In short we have to manage our lives without being dependent on our parents. I know it gives a boost to our self esteem as we are not dependent on our parents. Our parents too feel proud that their children made it themselves. But the question arises do we really manage our lives well? This question is explored in the web series through the lives of two girls named Ray and Nikhat.

Ray is a junior architect who after 3 years plans to go to Barcelona for her higher studies. While on the other hand Nikhat is a software engineer. Both are complete opposites yet the best of friends. Both try to live their lives to the fullest yet feel something is missing. They try to figure it out what is it by constantly undertaking new experiments with their lives. What are their experiments ? What do their experiments teach them? Does their relation get evolved for good or worse ? Watch the series to find out.

Well , now coming to the critical part. I found the web series boring . Well you might tend to disagree with me, but to each his/her own. The web series tries to explore the theme of adulting but it gets off the track . It felt more like a tale of two friends rather than exploring the problems adults face in their lives. Some parts are good but the writers could have put in more efforts by undertaking more research. The actors try to cover up the lack lustre script with their acting . But at times their acting too feels over the board. So overall it is a one time watch though one thing I must admit is that the theme song is catchy. Do tell me about your thoughts in the comments section. Waiting for the same.
