“I love those connections that make this big old world feel like a little village”

    Gina Bellman

Another week and another month comes to an end. But that doesn’t mean our work should stop. Our work should keep on going till we can continue to. After all “good things come to those who hustle.” So, I do hope you are super excited to know the latest pick just the same way as I am excited to write about this one.

This week’s pick tells us the story of a graduate who is not able to find a job of his caliber. So, ultimately, he ends up working for a panchayat in a remote village dealing with several challenges.

Synopsis: Abhishek Tripathi is an engineering graduate who is used to living a comfortable life in city. But he is an unfortunate guy as he does not receive any job offer in the college premises. However, he has a job offer of being a panchayat secretary. As he is left with no other option, he decides to give it a shot. He sets off to Phulera. But, looking at the dismal situation of the village turns him down. He decides that he needs to switch his job and the only way out of this situation is to crack CAT. On his way to cracking CAT, he encounters several challenges in the village. Will Abhishek be able to handle the hassles of his job as well as that of his studies?Or will he falter? What are the experiences that he comes across in the village? And how does he handle them or are new problems created?

Assessment: This one tries to explore life in a village through the eyes of a college graduate. He in order to save his face, takes up a job as a panchayat secretary even though he is unwilling to do so. This can be seen as addressing the problem India faces: disguised or underemployment. This series also tries to highlight the problems faced by villagers and how they need to be solved with some tact and wisdom.

This series will somehow remind you of the movie Swades which had ShahRukh Khan as the lead actor. This series too has a similar premise but with different issues. The positives of the show includes stellar performances by the lead actors and a balanced story line . More than the lead actors, I want to applaud the performance of Chandan Roy who as Vikas steals the show more than the leads. Also, the comic timing is so impeccable that you end up laughing a lot.

Also, you do feel for Abhishek Tripathi played by Jitendra Kumar who has to face some or the other issue. But despite doing so, he ensures that every issue is looked into and is resolved through sometimes by his own tact and sometimes with the help of his colleagues. This is despite the fact that he does not love his job but still does it earnestly and with full dedication. Another nice thing about the show is that they have captured the real essence of life in an Indian village as well as the real issues which plague them.

The view: This one has to be on your watch list definitely. Watch it for the realistic, gripping and comical story line. Also, watch it for the ways village issues are handled and last but not the least, watch it for the stellar performances. This one will fulfil your quota of comedy and will have you in splits. So, do go binge watch this. I do hope that you do enjoy it the same way as I did. Will be waiting to hear it from you. Till then lots of hugs and love to all.

  • Opposites attract?

    Author: Susan Elizabeth Philips

    Genre: Sports-Romance

“You are the love that came without warning.

You had my heart before I could say no.”

    Anonymous

I am a hopeless romantic who is also a realist a lot of times. But that doesn’t stop me to read or watch romcoms whether it be in the form of novels or web series or even movies.I know it sounds cheesy but lets just say it is one of my guilty pleasures. And what better way to pay homage to the week of love which was last week by picking something related to romance:p. So, this week’s pick revolves around the same. To some, this might sound crazy or cheesy but I do feel the best way to celebrate the feeling of love if you are a single like me is to give in to your guilty pleasures once a while if not everytime apart from being a serious advocate of self love. After all when you love yourself better, you can love others better isn’t it?

This time’s celebration involves a book that narrates the tale of two diametrically opposites who meet each other by accident. But when did love stories happen by purpose?:D

About the book:Natural Born Charmer‘ narrates the story of Chicago Stars quarterback Dean Robillard who has a profitable side career as a billboard model. Despite having a life that is the envy of others, he feels something is amiss. So, in order to find the missing piece, he sets on a cross- country trip to figure out what’s wrong. While driving, he encounters a girl who will shake his life upside down in an unexpected manner.

Blue Bailey is on a mission to inflict some serious damage on her ex after he dumps her for another girl. She is a portrait painter who refuses to stay in one place very long. She needs a ride and what starts as a journey for the two soon turns into an exciting adventure. But the question is : will it just be an adventure or will it turn into something long lasting?

Analysis: As I was searching for something light to read, I chanced upon an article which had this book as a recommendation. Now since the article was vouching for this book, I decided to give it a read. Believe me it did not turn out to be a bad choice. It was a book which if I had enough time would have finished soon but thanks to my hectic schedule took around a week to finish . But never mind, “better late than never”. Plus I got to deliver the review about the same if not in the same week but a week later which gave me enough space to think out the same despite a hectic schedule.

The positives of the book- a fresh take on romance between two complete opposites. Generally either it is a CEO or a secretary or a movie star or ordinary girl type stories, this one was between a sports star and a painter. I really liked the fact that the author did not portray them as picture perfect personalities especially that of the sports super star. But instead, she painted a realistic image of both which made the story relatable. Blue Bailey’s sassy replies adds to the humors. Also, the situations in which both find themselves make for great laughs.

The negatives- if you are the one who finds intimate scenes and kissing scenes uncomfortable, then let me warn you there are plenty throughout the book. After all romance is supposed to be an intimate affair isn’t it? :p

Verdict: People who have romantic comedies as their guilty pleasure need to definitely add this to their reading list. They will surely enjoy this one. For people, who do not enjoy reading romantic comedies they need not bother. They can maybe enjoy another book. After all there’s everything for everyone. But if you want to give it a go, read for the refreshing romantic story line, for Blue Bailey’s sassy replies and maybe for having a good feel by indulging in some guilty pleasure once a while.

  • Since 7th of this month, the week of love or the buzz up to the so called Valentine’s Day has started. Every year, this week invokes a mixed bag of emotions in me. Sometimes, I just feel excited thinking about the fact that Valentine’s Day is around the corner. Love is in the air for everyone and feel happy for all the people who get to spend time with the people they love. Other times, I do feel angry that this is a day which is simply a hype and everything is just a business. This is true for every festival but it feels more during this week. Every business just cashes on the idea of love which feels really outrageous. From cakes to balloons to flowers and what not, everyone just wants to cash in and have their voices heard during this week. What is supposed to be a pure emotion becomes a commercial for businesses and a super difficult thing for singles like me.

The reason is simple while all the couples around the world are busy making their love stories or are trying to bring their love stories to fruition, people like me who are just wondering or haven’t received or found love feel bad at times. Every time, this week springs up, the most affected are the ones who are single . Believe me, this one I speak from experience. Not that we do not love ourselves or hate ourselves for who we are; but we are also humans right? We also do have something called emotions and long to have that one person or maybe a special group of people who understand us without having to speak much.

Lucky and fortunate are those who do not have to battle their inner demons on a daily basis or have someone on their side and reassure them that everything’s going to be fine. People like me who are singles and hopeless romantics just keep wishing and then dissing it off as if it is going to be real.Again, the reason is not lack of self love or something. The reason is we raise ourselves to be hyper independent so even if someone is willing to help us out, we feel we need to have that repaid in some or the other way. And don’t get me started on a person who falls in love with me or actually wants to. I either push that person away or have serious doubts. But that doesn’t mean people like me do not long for love. People like me fall in love with characters that exist in fictional life or are too good to exist in the real world. Not that we doubt the people in real life because people do find love and sometimes I do wonder how ?But I guess my standards for love is pretty high. People like me long for a love which kind of brings out the best version in you. A love which is reassuring and not abandoning in nature( we do get hurt a lot of times when someone you love or are about to fall in love either ghosts you or abandons you leaving you alone to gather the pieces and put them back together.)A love which makes the other person feel scared to lose us and vice versa. A love which does not hurt and stands strong even if things are difficult. But in today’s world where it is easy to find lust and difficult to find true love, things do seem a bit difficult. But for those who truly understand they never leave their closed ones behind. Instead they make them realize what they are worth .

Thank God , I do have such people despite having a very complex mind. I am super grateful for all the lovely people. But sometimes I do wish people who would love to fall in love in whatever capacity can you do that on a deeper level instead of just being superficial? I don’t do things half-heartedly and put in the efforts wherever I can or do sense genuineness. Else I have a piece of advice- do not even try to make a bridge or stay away. There is a simple reason to this- I am not everyone’s cup of tea. Though I am a nice person but I can be a complete ******* or a ***** depending upon how you treat. And believe me I am not apologetic for the way I behave most of the times because I prefer being authentic rather than being a fake . Also, someone has aptly said,”Your opinion of me does not define who I am.”

So, whether its the Valentine week or some other week as long as I love myself and have some of the greatest people who act as life support , I think I should do fine even though I might be a single or might not have someone exclusive. It is because of these people I can be my authentic self and love myself the most. Also, three cheers to that self love even though people like me have to fight their battles alone internally and externally.

When you have to be your own life partner:)
